Kara Hurring was sentenced to nine-months home detention

The ex-partner of the man dubbed the runaway millionaire has spoken out about her time on home detention.

Kara Hurring was sentenced to nine-months home detention and ordered to pay nearly $12,000 in reparations after she was found guilty of a raft of theft and money laundering charges.

Her former partner Leo Gao was sentenced to four years and seven months in jail after he admitted stealing $6.7 million after Westpac accidentally gave him a $10 million overdraft.

Speaking to the Rotorua Daily Post, Hurring says she is counting down the days until her sentence is up.

She says the hardest part about home detention is the loss of freedom.
