Biography
Karen McCarthy began her journalism career on a smalltown newspaper in Canterbury.
She’s been a news and current affairs journalist for more than 25 years, most of that in broadcasting .. radio and television in New Zealand. This included news producing and reporting for Radio Avon, Radio Hauraki, TVNZ and Associated Press Television (formerly Worldwide Television News) in London.
She joined TV3 in 1994 (1994-1997) reporting news from home and abroad, including award-winning coverage of the Tahiti riots in protest over French nuclear testing in the Pacific in 1994 .. and Britain’s handover of Hong Kong back to China in 1997.
She joined the ranks of TV3’s current affairs journalists in 1997 .. filing stories for 20/20 and 60 Minutes. She is based in Auckland.
