A Christchurch recruitment company is warning businesses waiting for the city's rebuild to ensure staff are kept happy, or they may lose them.
Decipher Group says it's working with a number of companies which are essentially treading water, putting them at risk from head-hunters.
Director Sarcha Feary says staff retention should be a key focus.
"Things aren’t changing rapidly and a lot of people feel they're a little bit left in the dark," she says. "Even if the answer is, 'We don't know what's going on,' keep communicating with them, keep trying to get them engaged.
"Perhaps look at diversifying some of their skills within the business."
Ms Feary says some companies are picking up work faster than others, which may result in the poaching of staff.
