Keira Knightley is teaming up with her Atonement boss Joe Wright to play the lead in a big screen reimagining of Leo Tolstoy's epic novel Anna Karenina.

The pair worked together on the highly-acclaimed 2007 wartime movie, based on the novel by Ian McShane, as well as Jane Austen's Pride And Prejudice in 2005 - and now they are reuniting to bring another literary masterpiece to cinema audiences.

Knightley will play Karenina, a married woman who has an affair with a soldier. Jude Law has signed on to play her husband, Aleksei.

Vivien Leigh and Greta Garbo have previously played the heroine on the big screen. The new version starts shooting in Russia later this month.
