Prime Minister John Key is still flying high after his win in Saturday night’s general election, where the National Party sailed home.

Mr Key says he has no regrets about his endorsement of UnitedFuture leader Peter Dunne in Ohariu-Belmont or ACT MP John Banks in Epsom.

“The thing with MMP is it’s very unlikely you’d ever get a Parliamentary majority,” he says. The National Party therefore needed to see those two candidates get in to the Beehive in order to feel more comfortable about their chances at a second term in power.

The Prime Minister is currently courting the Maori Party and is hopeful they will come on board with his Government.

“One of the nice things is that we don’t absolutely need them,” he says, “so it takes a little bit of pressure off them.”

Mr Key says he believes a coalition with the Maori Party is beneficial to Maori in New Zealand.

Um.. the only reason National got so high was because right wingers had no other party to vote for, perhaps with the exception of The Conservatives who at least ran a half decent campaign. The left on the other hand were too spoilt for choice with the Greens, NZF, Mana etc, but, while that cost them the election, they now have formed quite a formidable opposition. If John Key wants a third term come 2014 he has to keep the Maori Party and the Conservatives in his good books because his other coalition partners will not survive, and will have little influence in govt for the next three years.

one million labour voters stayed home because many thought it impossible that nz would vote for national ,poverty and unemployment, a gov't that borrowed more and created the biggest gov't debt in our history, but yes believe it or not they did
vote for mismanagement and a man that can't borrow any more so wants to sell the assets next, after the assets are gone then so will he be gone leaving the biggest mess in history, well done nz.

Hey Cherie: You keep going on about women running around having these baBies on the DPB. Not happening Cherie. Probably even less than the amount of drunk drivers on the run from the court. How about spending money know on education and health so these kids can be productive and able to work and start businesses in the future. Save a lot of money long term. No more men on the dole and sickness bene for 30yrs and maybe they might provide for their kids. people might start exercising their right to vote. But hey Key & Joyce wouldn't want that, they would be left voters

Hey you lot. They have the next three years. Instead of moaning how about listerning like the voters did. Voters like the fact if you are a crim on the run you get nothing and if you pop out another kid back to work you go (Just like ordinary people do). We dont want all the promises that Mr Goff was throwing madley around trying to get in. Steady as she goes. If you dont like it I suggest you head over seas . Thats another thing they talk about the brain drain well some of the people who have said on this site they are off I am sorry but there is no brain drain there they will increase the IQ of NZ by leaving

Kiwi`s should take legal action and have a day in court as that could be only way to stop selling our country. After all MP`s are there to do what is the best for New Zealand , not what they think is the best.I agree to sell 49% only if Key will sign declaration that he will go to jail for 10 years if things go wrong in future.Country is to be run as family not as stock market shares. Look what happening in USA?!?!?!
