John Key

John Key

National party leader John Key is claming the latest tape released of comments made by his deputy Bill English as nothing but smear tactics by Labour.

In the tape released to 3 News, English expresses his concern about Obama's moralising, and doubts his ability to be effective when it comes to international relations.

This comes just after John Key expressed his support for the man tipped to be the next American president in a leader’s debate on Monday.

Key says there is not enough evidence surrounding the tapes – nothing to show the tapes have not been doctored or taken out of context.

Speaking on Sunrise this morning, Key comments that there are more important things to focus on in this election then the secret tapes and that "frankly, I’m not going to spend any time on it."

We have one that didn't want to go to war in Iraq and they don't put their foot in their mouth every 30 seconds.

That's not exactly a compelling argument. It looks like you're trying to say "a tape of Bill English saying something incredibly stupid does not make National look bad."

Well if you want a stupid party as your government then maybe not.

There is no more proof that this was leaked Labour than it is by gremlins. That said, with all the dishonest dirt (and “dirty desperate behavior”) that National and supporters have used against Labour and Greens (the Exclusive Brethren smear campaign, if Hollow Men is to be believed – and there is no reason to doubt it, and the report on Clark’s “Gay” husband)

…why is a “secret tape” that is likely true – and never denied by National, called "dirty desperate behavior"? The answer is - to divert attention from a party that it is now clear will try to come to power on a pack of lies.

You appear to be as daft as John Key.

Back in August when the first recordings were released, John Key came out swinging wildly. At one point Key suggested (as he is now) that the tapes could be doctored. At another point he suggests that it was probably members one of the young labourites that infiltrated the conference. John Key blamed Bill English for not choosing his words carefully. Bill English later apologised for what he said. So if the tapes were doctored why did English apologise??

Key blames Labour for using dirty smear tactics, yet it was ok for them to infiltrate Labour's conference in April and use secret recordings of Mike Smith. The pot calling the kettle black don't you think?
