Prime Minister John Key appears to have told his welfare minister not to again release private details about beneficiaries.
Social Development Minister Paula Bennett caused an uproar in 2009 when she released the full details of the state support Hamilton mother of three Natasha Fuller was receiving.
Ms Fuller had complained about the Government axing her training incentive allowance.
The Human Rights Commission investigated and last week decided not to take action against Ms Bennett.
Ms Bennett said she considered the issue closed, she wasn't going to apologise to Ms Fuller, and she wouldn't rule out doing it again.
Mr Key said today he had spoken to Ms Bennett about her comments.
"It's fair to say that in my view it won't happen again," he told reporters.
"She indicated to me that because there's a million permutations in life she couldn't rule out every one of those but, in reality, she thought it was very unlikely to ever happen again."
Mr Key says the issue was politically motivated.
"There's now a resolution, I think that's the end of the matter and I don't think we will be seeing it again."
