The Prime Minister has sent a stinging message to the power companies - don't use the Emissions Trading Scheme as an excuse to price gouge consumers.

The Transport and Electricity Sector are included in the Government's ETS – due out Thursday.

Companies in the sector will have to pay for the dirty side of their business and they will pass on the cost to consumers with higher power and petrol prices.

One would hardly think they need windmills around parliament. With all those politicians down there they should be able to power up the "whole" bottom of the North Island...LOL!!!

V & Jim wind mills installed all over the hills in Wellington should work well,as Wellington is a windy place all the time, especially around parliament.I have just found out why the Nat government put up a larger flag on top of the beehive,It is too show them which way the ETS going, they did not show them installing the flow meter, too show them the amount of dollars they are going to make out of it.

Yes Miss S - Totally agree. I gave Labour a hard time over this issue but to me Smith and Co. have turned into just another version of "tax for tax sake" aka Sheriff of Knottingham.
Rick, I too wonder what the real reason for this scam / scheme is and its ultimate destination?!!!

Of course the Government doesn't want the power companies to increase power prices - well not immediately, anyway. They don't want the public to associate the cost increase with ETS. If there is a gap of at least a few months, then (they think) we will not associate the two events.

How stupid do they think the NZ public is? Anybody who does a bit of basic research (God bless the internet) knows that the whole thing is a scam. No other country in the world is going ahead with this because it is obviously a lie.

Perhaps this is the reason why John Key wants to be able to block certain (unspecified) sites on the internet. He did hint that this was to do with bomb-making or child porn sites, but I don't believe that, either.

I'm still waiting for Nick's "charm" offensive, which should be interesting. And where on earth is our stalwart fourth estate hiding? Do your homework, people of the free press, and get after the pollies.

If there is going to be a march on parliament over this, let me know because I will be there.

Did you know more than 31,000 scientists IN THE US ALONE have signed a petition stating that there is absolutely no evidence to link CO2 to climate change. (www.petitionproject.org) ........NZ glaciers have said to be growing, as well as a large percentage across the globe........... Geologist claim earth has heated and cooled many times through history - therefore it's more likely a natural occurrence......... What annoys me as that there has been electric cars on the market, cars running on water, free energy inventions, re newable energy - we have the technology now (and for a few years) to get CO2 levels down very low and I'm not sure why this isn't happening, I suppose at the end of the day companies are pulling our puppet strings and taking more cost effective options....... The ETS scheme dictates that the consumer has to pay, while hundreds of companies get subsidized for it out of taxpayers wallets!!!!!! ...........Did you know that ETS can also raise our goods prices due to transport,...........that our meat, dairy products can become more expensive.......... that European ETS schemes are mainly focussing on the big emitters to pay tax.............The ETS could effect our meat exports, putting us at an unfair disadvantage - and none of our trading partners have ETS........ All of us average consumers combined only emit 30% of CO2, but the next 5 years we seem to be the only ones paying for it........ Now lets look at global temps: The global temperature has been measured from 1856-which had increased steadily to 1880 then the temp cooled between 1880-1910 ......1910-1942 increase in global temps again.........1942-1975 global cooling........1975-1998 global warming......Global warming and cooling Natural occurrence.
