National is crying foul after learning Helen Clark knew of the Serious Fraud Office's decision to investigate New Zealand First and Winston Peters the day before it became public.
Miss Clark has been accusing the SFO of tipping off National about its decision, leading National leader John Key to quickly rule-out a post-election deal with Mr Peters.
But Miss Clark's own actions in revealing she knew more about the donation from Owen Glenn than she let on, are also in the spotlight.
National's John Key says she has only been forthcoming, in the belief her knowledge would be over-shadowed by news of the SFO investigation.
And National's leader is scotching suggestions he has been hitting up a British billionaire for money.
John Key has revealed he met with Lord Michael Ashcroft, who is the deputy chair of Britain's Tory Party.
He is best known in New Zealand for putting up a reward for the return of the stolen Waiouru medals.
Mr Key denies asking Lord Ashcroft for money for National, and says under the Electoral Finance Act that would have been illegal.
