A tragedy for everyone, most especially Jordan, and an absolute indictment of our society which doesn't seem to realise that unhappy kids of this age are capable of making decisions that seem quite irrational to adults. There was a reason why traditionally the age of majority was 21. By then most human brains are sufficiently developed to be able to process information rationally. By following the American dream to the extent we have, by allowing violence on TV, violent video games, worshipping material things and abbrogating our responsibilities as parents, we (that's US, you, me and the politicians we elect) have wrecked the lives of thousands of New Zealand children. This boy is one of them but instead of society taking responsibility, somehow we're blaming it on the unfortunate front line staff of CFs who are spread far to thinly not to make mistakes. (I know, because my daughter is a social worker for an NGO and sees the difficulties CFs work under.) As for Jamie saying "he knows right from wrong", with respect, I don't agree. At his age, and in his position, my guess is that Jordan could see no other possible solution to his driving need to return to Napier. When he is older, depending on what they do with him in the meantime, he'll realise the enormity of what he's done. Too late for Rosemaree Kurth of course.

another one dies...EVERYONE is accountable for their own actions. 13years old? he knows right from wrong. As for Cyfs, they cant be everywhere, but they have to be on top of THEIR PLANS..to remove/relocate children and not let the new region officers know, im sure a 10 second email could have done the job! like nick said, its a joke that is no longer funny. When we have caring people killed for opening their homes and making breakfast lunch and dinner for children - it saddens me...another option CYFS may consider is sending them to the islands for treatment..try worlds strictest parents programme???...
It is just so sadd most of these killings/outraged children are children who are ment to have been given the "help" they needed...i can go on and on...

CYF seem to always fail, people need to push the issue go higher than the person they are asking 4 help from if no action is being taken to help, always turns out little to late, the left hand doesnt no what the right hand is doing in that department all tell you different things

CYF failed again and this time it is labelled big time, well that is nothing new and CYF is now a big joke that isn't funny anymore.
We shall wait for the next one

Absolute rubbish from you again Mike.
your argument is criminals are born and not made.
Thats the dumbest thing I have ever heard.
What you are doing is excusing government ineptitude and incompetence.
Most likely because you are a government official of some sort.
The incompetent protecting the incompetent.

Its scary . All that is required to have your child taken from you on the "just in case " policy is to be a low income parent or a single mother. Most children uplifted ( more than 5000 a year) fall into this category.

I hate to say it, everybody likes to blame someone else when this sort of thing happens. CYF cannot be everywhere at once and family's need to take responsibility rather than the government. Boys do not go around shooting people, so my verdict is that no matter what anyone does for a person like this they are going to do it anyway at some stage.
