Kings of Leon's new album Only By the Night has just been released in New Zealand and it is already getting some rapturous reviews.
They are also at the top of the UK charts thanks to the first single, 'Sex On Fire', but their fourth studio album has been getting some lukewarm reviews in their homeland of America.
Lead singer Caleb Followill has faced criticism in the past for his almost indecipherable southern drawl, but this time around the vocals are slower and easier to understand, and it's working.
"Some of our old songs were party songs and stuff like that, but this one definitely has a little bit more of a serious tone to it, I would say," says Followill.
"It was kind of a joke when I said, 'Your sex is on fire,' and everyone was like, 'Wow, that's a hook,' and I was like, 'Yeah, but I'm going to look like an idiot up there going 'your sex is on fire,' but last time we played it here, it was the second time we played it live and I think the girls liked it."
It has been five years since their debut album Youth and Young Manhood, time the Tennessee-bred Followill brothers and their cousin have spent touring.
They returned home to Nashville to record the latest album, and used their time on the road to gain a little more confidence.
"We're all pretty shy people and so actually, I think we do quite a bit of strutting considering how we are in real life," says Followill.
They are number three on the New Zealand top 40 chart, despite the album being leaked on the internet weeks before the release date.
