Actress Kirsten Dunst put on a show for stunned partygoers in New York - after crashing a bash for Oscar-winning The Piano director Jane Campion to perform an impromptu audition.

The Spider-Man star showed up uninvited to a luncheon at the posh Plaza Hotel's Oak Room on Tuesday, held in Campion's honour.

Reports suggest Dunst is vying for a role in the filmmaker's latest project, Runaway - based on a book of short stories by Canadian writer Alice Munro.

According to the New York Daily News, the star amused guests with a shameless show to get the director's attention.

A source tells the newspaper, "Kirsten is tap-dancing like crazy to get a job!"

A spokesperson for the actress was yet to respond to requests for a comment as WENN went to press.
