New Zealand golfer Brad Shilton has tasted success for the first time on the Australasian PGA Tour by winning the South Pacific championship in New Caledonia.

Shilton shot an even-par 71 in his final round to finish on 13-under, one stroke clear of defending champion Matthew Griffin of New Caledonia.

Starting the day with a three-shot lead, the 33-year-old from Te Awamutu held his composure as Griffin drew level during the final nine holes.

"I got a wee bit nervy I suppose but that's going to happen. Considering I haven't been in that position for ages, especially in one of these events, I am pretty proud of that," Shilton said.

Sharing third place on 11-under were Australian pair Adam Bland and Henry Epstein.
