Kiwi golfer Steve Alker has put in a fine day’s work in the opening round of the British Open at Royal Latham and St Annes in England.
The qualifier finished his round on 69, five shots off the pace of leader Australian Adam Scott.
Alker started his day off perfectly with a two at the opening par-three 1st, lost some momentum at the 5th and 6th with a double bogey, bogey run then made three birdies coming in to be in a tie for 21st.
