Kiwi baseballers are heading to Taipei

This weekend New Zealand’s baseball team, the Diamond Blacks, head off to the world baseball classic qualifiers in Taipei.

It’s the first time a Kiwi baseball team has made it into international competition.

What's more they'll be playing before a TV audience of 80 million people.

Greg Pearson has been with the team.

Michael, We haven't said it's the first time. The media has. We've clearly stated that it's the first time on this sort of stage with this kind of effort, which goes far beyond past efforts for a variety of reasons. If you listen closely, the 'new regime' as you call them always pays tribute to the past. Thanks.

This is stunningly incorrect, touring teams have been playing international events since the merit cup in 1992, also olympic qualifying in 1995, Guatemala, China, Brazil, France, Czech republic, Peru, Australia, Guam & American Samoa are teams that i know the New Zealand Baseball team have played because i played in them. Not sure why baseball NZ fails to recognise that fact that the new regime is not the first to send teams overseas to play international baseball.
