What do Dick Frizzell, Max Gimblett, Zambesi and Kate Sylvester all have in common?

Other than being some of the best creative minds in the country they are among the icons who have designed a range of rugs.

“I think love's the Holy Grail, man. What else is there? Everything else is just practice,” says Saatchi & Saatchi chief executive Kevin Roberts. “When you're in love, you've never felt happier; you've never felt younger; you've never felt better. Nothing beats being in love.”

Mr Roberts was one of seven creative minds asked to turn their talents to rug design for the Kiwi Icon collection.

Designer Rugs already has some of the biggest design names from around the world creating their rugs; they wanted some of our best artists to do the same.

“I can't think of anything better than having a little bit of Kiwiana in people's premises or homes around the world,” says Laura Furey of Designer Rugs.

And providing that bit of Kiwiana are people like Codi Design and Boh Runga.

“When I see monarch butterflies in summer, it reminds me of just beautiful weather and our wonderful New Zealand environment,” Runga says.

Artists Dick Frizzell and Max Gimblett, designers Zambesi and Kate Sylvester and of course KIevin Roberts are also involved.

“Love life, live life – took all of three seconds to think of and write. It's taken a bit longer to get the rug made,” says Mr Roberts.

Almost a year, in fact, but judging by the interest at the collection's launch, it's been worth the wait.
