Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been released and is expected to rake in more cash that last year's record $209 million opening weekend for Batman film The Dark Knight.
At midnight last night New Zealanders were the first to get their hands on it.
Gamers have been waiting for this release since 2007 Game of the Year Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.
At midnight things didn't kick off how a lot of Kiwi gamers were hoping they would - daylight savings meant the game couldn't be activated for another hour.
PC Gamers at Playtech on North Shore were forced to play the game on consoles as they waited for that hour to finish, which is kind of like making a Holden driver jump into a Ford.
"We're still waiting for the PC version, but it looks good to see it on the console which is a start at least," one gamer told 3 News.
"I'm really enjoying it. I'm playing with my mate here, it's great fun doing co-op, we're both able to work together and help each other out," said another.
"It's worth the wait," exclaimed one happy gamer. "(It looks like an) awesome game from the first few missions. It's pretty challenging as well."
Modern Warfare 2 sets records in pre-orders alone - the developers putting it down to the game's mix of realism and Hollywood.
"Sometimes we branch off from realism and just have that fun moment," says Infinity Ward Creative Strategist Robert Bowling. "Like, yeah, you're stealthing (sic) into a Russian base. But then you're going to escape on a snowmobile with a helicopter chasing you, which is very much more James Bond."
Modern Warfare 2 is predicted to have the highest grossing opening weekend for an entertainment title of all time, a record currently held by Grand Theft Auto IV.
