Four Kiwi boys from Whakatane decided to travel from Cape Town to London on motorbikes all because they knew someone who did it in the 1980s.

They had little or no motorbike experience and one licence between them. However, they survived and even made a documentary about it.

They spent six months travelling across the continent, taking the scenic route from Cape Town to London, arriving at the beginning of last year.

With 10 kilograms of supplies strapped to their bikes, five pairs of undies each and just one full license between them, some days were better than others.

Through some of the most politically unstable countries in the world, the boys were constantly surprised.

"There were times when you'd be at a loss and then someone would come out and give you a bowl of food and ask how can we help," rider Julian Kardose said. "It was just amazing."

"It was definitely a lesson in problem solving," Nicholas Twaddle explained. "There was four times the problems with four bikes."

The sold out premiere of African Odyssey is this Saturday in their hometown of Whakatane. It will be shown in Auckland and Wellington in July.
