New Zealand-born plastic surgeon Dr Andrew Greensmith, a member of the team involved in separating conjoined twins last year, is now an official Australian.

Dr Greensmith, his wife, Mexican-born Victoria, and children Andres and Claudia, all pledged their allegiance to Australia at the Australia Day citizenship ceremony in Canberra.

It was presided over by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Governor-General Quentin Bryce.

Dr Greensmith says he remains proud of his New Zealand heritage.
