Kiwifruit gets Vitamin C into the system faster

A study from the Otago University School of Medicine has found that kiwifruit is a better way to get Vitamin C into the system than a daily supplement.

The study, using mice, found that eating Kiwifruit allowed Vitamin C to get into the system faster and was retained longer than when taking a supplement.

The recommended daily intake of the vitamin is around 80-90mg per day. A kiwifruit provides more than this.

The study was part funded by kiwifruit growers Zespri, who are in need of some positive PR after last year’s PSA outbreak saw exports of the fruit slashed.
