The fate of 70 Kiwirail workers will be confirmed later today following six weeks of negotiations between the company and the union.

Union supporters staged a protest in Dunedin this morning outside Carisbrook, where Kiwirail boss Jim Quinn is holding a national roadshow.

The event was boycotted by workers who are angry about plans by Kiwirail to cut 40 jobs at the hillside plant, and another 30 in Lower Hutt.

But while numbers are expected to be confirmed at the meeting, staff may have to wait a few more weeks to find out who is being made redundant.
