Kiwis paying more for AB jerseys

Rip off, or good business sense?

Rip off, or good business sense?

$220 is the cost to buy a replica All Blacks jersey.

That’s a lot of money.

It's almost twice what you pay for them in the US which seems outrageous; they're our boys, our team, and our jerseys. Yet they're cheaper in Los Angles where they play rugby wearing a helmet.

Why? Who is making the money?

Well, we believe American retailers and Kiwi retailers are both adding the same mark-up, give or take a small amount.

This suggests Adidas are wholesaling their jerseys for a lot more here, than there.

So, is that rampant profiteering three stripes and you're out?

Or actually, as little as we may like it, good business sense?

Just seen the RWC AB jersey in a Johannesburg shop for ZAR600 = NZ105,a bit on the nose when our opposition can buy our gear for half the price. C'mon Adidas, play fair.

Tell the truth. "Retailers have different cost structures in other countries" (read: NZ retailers don't have sufficient leverage to dictate a lower price). "it's priced fairly for NZ market" (read: we think we can squeeze true fans for more). I might buy the jersey from rebel sport. But, it will be the very last adidas product I ever buy.

So it's ok for our hotels to gouge overseas visitors (some inflating their room rates by 500% during the tournament), but it's not OK for Adidas (who pay A LOT of money to have their name on the AB's) to cash in at the same time?

I have always liked Adidas product and have bought a few of their products but after what they are doing to us I have decided that I will never buy another Adidas product again. My message to ADidas is "We are not idiots,we pay for your wages.DO NOT TAKE US FOR GRANTED"

We are absolute fools for boycotting adidas!! If people stopped to think about it for a moment they'd realise that if adidas stops making money in NZ we could be jeopardising losing the biggest financial and technical innovation sponsor we could ever hope for. The ABs new jersey is technically superior and far lighter than any other team's jersey in the world.... that advantage and innovation costs money. We should be proud and grateful that adidas want to give OUR team the best shirt in the world!

Haha, same thing as always: same product costs about half the price overseas! Nothing new really. Check out what you want, electronics, camping gear, etc etc. I guess they charge us more in NZ because we earn more than those poor folks overseas, eh?! But the AB jersey takes the cake. Surely I won't buy one anywhere else but overseas!!! Just in the states right now, can I bring anybody anything? ;-)

It's sad that true rugby fans quite possibly won't have the money to buy a shirt to support their team. The Rugby World Cup 2011 is more about the money than it is the game. Shame things have changed so much from 1987 where there were no sponsorships and the playing/watching of the game was about national pride.

Adidas is telling us to support NZ retailers and only buy local. Don't use overseas suppliers (unless its cheap labour and sweatshops).

Well it seems New Zealanders can't order from worldrugbyshop.com – they don't have NZ listed on the countries. It's a conspiracy!
