A group of New Zealand climbers will leave this month for Antarctica with plans to climb the remote, 2520m high Mt Parry.
The peak rises from the 33km long Brabant Island, situated within British Antarctic Territory, and the group hope to take a previously unexplored route to the summit.
It will be the last of seven adventures funded through the Hillary Expedition Grants, awarded by Sport and Recreation New Zealand (Sparc) last year.
To qualify for the grants an expedition must involve either tramping, climbing, cross-country skiing, kayaking, mountain biking or sailing.
Other groups have explored underground caves in Kahurangi National Park, underwater caves in the Ellis Basin system, Nelson, and made the first ascent of the 6180m high Karim Sar in northern Pakistan.
