The new two lane Kopu Bridge connecting the Hauraki District to the Coromandel opens to cars today.

The $40 million project has already had lots of foot traffic – on Saturday more than 1000 people crossed it for its official opening.

It's hoped having two lanes will put a stop to lengthy traffic jams in the area as 20,000 motorists are expected to use it every day during the busy summer period.
