Fears pace bowler Kyle Mills fractured his left cheek in a collision with wicket-keeper Brendon McCullum have been allayed after X-rays on Friday showed no break.
Mills collided McCullum in New Zealand's one-run Twenty20 win over India in Chennai on Tuesday.
He collected an elbow in the face as he and McCullum chased an edge from Yuvraj Singh, and had to go off the field.
Although cleared of serious injury, Mills isn't expected to line up for the Black Caps' warm-up Twenty20 against Australia in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on Saturday (NZT). McCullum will also be rested, after coming away from the incident with stiffness in his right arm and knee.
McCullum says the narrow win has boosted New Zealand's confidence ahead of their opening World Cup fixture against Bangladesh in Pallekele on September 21.
"We didn't play that well but we managed to still get the right result," he said.
"That was pleasing, but hopefully now we can build on that - smooth out some of the rough areas we had in that game and turn out some continually performances throughout the tournament."
McCullum spearheaded the New Zealand win, belting 91 off 55 deliveries, building a crucial partnership with Kane Williamson after openers Rob Nicol and Martin Guptill disappeared early to leave the Black Caps floundering at 2-2.
Even though he won't be featuring in the warm-up matches, McCullum says there's plenty to learn, both against Australia on Saturday and South Africa on Monday before the World Cup kicks off three days later.
"They're two very good teams, and they'll put us under pressure many times. It's really going to test us, test our character and our authenticity to want to play some positive cricket," McCullum said.
