Tonight most of us are in our own homes, anticipating a good night's sleep and a good break for Easter - but not all of us.

A small number of New Zealanders - estimated to be about 100 in Auckland and 50 in Wellington - will be sleeping rough or in emergency accommodation.

Homeless people: no one knows for sure how many of them there are throughout the country, but at least politician is interesting in finding out more about the homeless.

In fact, Labour's Grant Robertson decided to spend the night in the city's night shelter.

Reporter Richard Langston shared the MP's night of discovery.
