Labour is renewing its call for Stephen McElrea to resign from the board of NZ On Air.

Mr McElrea is Prime Minister John Key's electorate secretary and Labour's Clare Curran says there is a clear conflict of interest.

She's tabled documents in parliament showing Mr McElrea was involved in commissioning a documentary about the government's Whanau Ora Maori welfare scheme.

"This is the same Mr McElrea who complained about a similarly-funded documentary about poverty screening just before the election," Ms Curran says.

"Mr McElrea must resign or be removed from the board in order for the agency to retain any integrity regarding its funding decisions."

Ms Curran has questioned Mr Key in Parliament this week about the appointment and the Prime Minister has defended Mr McElrea's position.
