Labtests is in the firing line again after an Auckland doctor found her patient's cancer was missed in a test.

Auckland GP Carmel Built says there are still serious problems with Labtests after her 64-year-old patient's cancer biopsy was misread.

The disease was only picked up after the man's surgeon expressed concern at the result.

Dr Built says it is not an isolated case and has now sent an open letter to Health Minister Tony Ryall, asking him to take urgent action after the slip-up.

She says GP's are worried more mistakes will endanger lives.

Labtests has been under Auckland Regional DHB supervision since September, following mistakes that were originally believed to have been "teething problems".
