The textile company has 80 staff remaining around the country

The last nail in the coffin has been driven home for iconic textiles company Lane Walker Rudkin.

The company was put in receivership in April with 470 staff across New Zealand and Australia forced out of a job - but today remaining workers have been told all operations will be wound up by Christmas and another 80 workers will be out of a job.

National Secretary Paul Watson says LWR employees have been dreading this day.

Mr Watson says the demise of LWR was an avoidable tragedy caused by poor management.

my Mum, as many other mothers worked at LWR after the war, I have lived in Sydenham most of my life where many of the workers at this factory lived. For a feel of the life and times of Sydenham/Addington and the importance of LWR and later, Argyle Textiles I recommend Stephen Eldred-Griggs novel Oracles and Miracles. The death of this Icon saddens me deeply. Historical figures such as Neil Arrow et al haunt the hallways of this sad site. John
