A large slip is blocking a remote road near Levin and it will be up to four
days before it is cleared.
Debris is covering Gladstone Road, 10km east of Levin, affecting local
residents, Horowhenua District Council says.
The landslide happened late on Tuesday or early Wednesday.
Council staff are visiting affected residents.
Sally Duxfield, who owns the Makahika Outdoor Pursuit Centre on Gladstone Rd,
told NZ Newswire about 10 families were affected and they were still able to get
in and out via an 8km four-wheel drive track.
"We're all tucked up here," she said.
Ms Duxfield says there is enough food, petrol, gas and other resources at her
centre alone to look after all 10 families for a week so there was no chance
locals would go without.
There is no one staying at the centre but a group of 30 boys are due to
arrive on Sunday and Ms Duxfield has no plans to turn them away.
The road was blocked for five days about four years ago when trees came down
during a storm.
