Controversial talkback radio host Michael Laws will return to his show on RadioLive in the new year after his on-air comments about shooting journalists led to an extended period of leave.

“RadioLive and Michael Laws have been involved in ongoing discussions relating to his radio show. The matters have now been resolved and Michael will return to his 9am - 12pm show after the holidays on January 9 2012.

“Neither party will be making any further comment on the matter, except to say we are both pleased the matter has been resolved,” said a spokesperson for MediaWorks.

The outspoken broadcaster was criticised for the comments on his RadioLIVE show, as he attacked journalists over their coverage of the "teapot tape" saga.

“If I had a gun I'd shoot them, put them out of their misery, because they have gone rabid and they may infect others.

“The Herald on Sunday, for example, which is rabid all the time. No idea why somebody hasn't taken the shotgun there and just cleaned out the entire newsroom,” said Mr Laws who also criticised the media in a newspaper column, after a conversation between Prime Minister John Key and ACT's Epsom candidate John Banks was secretly recorded and handed to the Herald on Sunday.

Mr Laws later said his on-air comments were a joke.

Well Michael Laws didn't last long did he. Any other employee in New Zealand would loose there job if they took as much time off as he does. He should stop berating others and have a good look at his own ethics. I have stopped listening to Radio Live because not him and Paul Henry and there right wing agenda.

I'm thrilled to bits that Mediaworks and Laws are "pleased", but I don't think Most New Zealanders are. Pleeeaaaase could we shoot him? That would make so many of us pleased.
