Le Havre review

3News NZ

By Kate Rodger

Set in the French port town of Le Havre, from Finnish filmmaker Aki Kaurismaki, comes the slow-burning little delight Le Havre.

It's the story of an old shoe-shiner (Andre Wilms) who embarks on a mission to save a young african refugee (Blondin Miguel), eventually getting the whole town behind him.

There's a distinctly fairytale feel to this film and a very old-school cinema feel to its telling, and once you settle in to that, there's no denying its charm.

Four stars.
