Lea Michele is thrilled to be returning to Glee next year, revealing the show’s creator has some “ground breaking ideas”.
Last year, it was claimed Lea – along with Chris Colfer and Corey Monteith – would be leaving the TV show after the third season and they were linked to a spin-off programme. However, those plans have now been shelved and Lea is pleased to be staying on to play ambitious student Rachel Berry.
“It's official Rachel Berry will be back next year for season 4! I'm so happy you have no idea!!” Lea wrote on her Twitter account. “Ryan Murphy has some brilliant and ground breaking ideas for including us graduates in the show for next season! It's going to be great (sic)!”
Fox entertainment chief Kevin Reilly has confirmed there won’t be a Glee spin-off series and Lea will continue to be involved with the show.
However, he revealed the fate of some of the actors who play McKinley High School seniors is still up in the air.
"Creatively, we'd want everybody back," Reilly told TV Line. "I've got to look at the contractual situation for all of those. And we will. I don't want to… get into details. I'm just trying to whet your appetite. But I think it's going to be a good thing for the show. It's cool. It's different."
Chris, who plays Kurt Hummel on the show, has confirmed he will also return for series four.
He revealed that creator Ryan Murphy has a plan to include the graduating characters that is "kind of revolutionary - it's the best of both worlds".
