Leading Ladies

Wed, 30 Sep 2009 3:02p.m.
So I have been holding out on you for awhile, or perhaps just omitting certain details.

Ask the right questions and you’ll get the right answers and all that (hmm hang on it doesn’t really work that way in a blog forum now does it?)

Perhaps it has been a case of “out of sight out of mind” as yet again we have more geographically challenged people in our wedding party.

Why is it that those we hold dearest seem to live so far away, or perhaps that is why we in fact hold them so dear… but I digress.

I would finally like to introduce you to my leading ladies or more aptly know as my bridesmaids!

I have been lucky enough to have been blessed with 2 wonderful yet infuriating (at times) sisters.

Big S has spent the past 6 months jet setting around Europe and is now settling into her English home for the next few years. She was the one who protected me from all the bad stuff (and some of the good stuff), she is a mother hen and we swing between giggling like school girls and fighting like alley cats because we know exactly how to press each other’s buttons! But I wouldn’t change her for the world.

Little S, my best friend since I was 4, later became my stepsister, she lives on the other side of town to me which isn’t really that far until you take into account our conflicting work hours and I don’t drive! She was the one I built Barbie homes with, made up magical adventures with and rode bikes with when we weren’t s'pose to, we were joined at the hip throughout our childhood years and even got matching concussions to prove it!

The last but by no means least is a best friend of 10 years who I have been through a hell of a lot with (most of which I maintain was her fault).

We have had laughs and fights, gossiped and bitched. We were 15 going on 30, far too clever for our own good- our antics even winding us up on the front page of the NZ Herald!

She is now being held against my will in Sydney, but I think the world has been a safer place ever since.

Of course there are other Girlfriends who are very special to me but I tend to think any more than 4 in your bridal party and it becomes more like a stage show than a ceremony!

But the part I have really been holding out on is we already have the Bridesmaids dresses!! And I have had then for aaaaaages. You see I bought them over a year ago, without any of the bridesmaids even seeing them let alone trying them on! I know you must think I’m crazy- but I know these girls, I have been dressing them for years so I took the plunge and bought the most vibrantly rich red Smith & Miles Dresses you have ever seen.

They are simply stunning and it’s safe to say they now think so too!

Now I just can’t wait for the fun to start.

I'm getting married to my childhood sweetheart in Feb 2010. We live in our own home in Auckland, along with our 3 adorable, time consuming Meows. I'm creative, opinionated, indecisive, organised, imaginative, a little crazy and not very good at keeping quiet about things that excite me... so this is going to be my perfect playground!
