John Lennon's solo catalogue has been digitally remastered, and will be out in time for the Beatles legend's 70th birthday.

Seven records, from 1970's John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band through to 1984's posthumous Milk and Honey, have been remastered at Abbey Road. His 1980 comeback album, Double Fantasy, will also be available in a "stripped down" remixed form, similar to the Beatles' own Let It Be… Naked.

His widow Yoko Ono has overseen the mastering sessions, which are based on Lennon's original mixes.

"In this very special year, which would have seen my husband and life partner John reach the age of 70, I hope that this remastering / reissue programme will help bring his incredible music to a whole new audience," says Ono.

A 15-track greatest hits called Power To The People will also be available, as well as four themed discs – Roots, covering rock'n'roll; Working Class Hero, his political songs; Woman, love songs; and Borrowed Time, described as 'songs about life'.

"His lyrics are as relevant today as they were when they were first written," says Ono.
