Kodi Smit-McPhee in Let Me In

For those of you yet to see it, your homework this weekend is to rent the DVD of Swedish film Let The Right One In.

This Hollywood version, Let Me In, is identical in premise, with a change of location, players and language of course, but essentially the same story of two outcast kids, one fragile, one vampire, who become friends.

It’s a coming of age story, a gentle love story, and a revenge story, far more than being a vampire film.

As far as remakes go, this one nails the all-important tone and feel of the original, and is a respectful and classy piece of filmmaking.

Four stars.
