We've finally gotten to the one aspect of wedding planning FH was really looking forward to – the wedding cake! I suspect his main motivation was sampling the cakes, but hey, if he's taking an interest, I don't care!
So we met with the lovely Tamara last Sunday morning and went through the basics. It became immediately obvious that our outdoor, non-airconditioned environment in the middle of summer was going to limit our choices somewhat!
Chocolate ganache icing was out. Cupcakes with swirly icing, gone.
We could just picture our gorgeous cake melting off the table while our guests watched on during the speeches!
So we had two options. Cupcakes with rolled icing, or cake iced again with rolled icing (but none of the hideous almond icing thanks!).
I've secretly fallen in love with numerous pictures of cute cakes on pedestal stands, so this is the look we're going for. Yes it'll be white, but we'll be incorporating ribbons in our colours and most likely raffia to tie in with our invites and favours. There's one other cool idea that we'll include, but I'm not giving everything away!
Then came the tasting. We looked through the dozen odd flavour choices, but let's be honest, FH is a chocolate man. If it wasn't chocolate, he didn't want to know about it. The chocolate mudcake was divine, actually more like a chocolate brownie nom nom nom. We'll have one tier of that thanks!
But the top tier is my favourite, a nice summer twist on a chocolate mudcake – white chocolate mudcake with raspberries! So delicious, I don't know how I'll stop at just one piece!
The real selling point for us (well, me) was the extra mile that Tamara goes to for her clients. She'll hand deliver our cake and set it up onsite on the day. This is a huge relief. I remember talking to one vendor at a wedding show who told me someone could just throw the cake on the backseat of the car and take it to the venue, it'd be fine. Yeah. Right. Fine.
Its pretty much a done deal, just the deposit to pay!
Wedding cake = tick!
