With Wellington in the grips of sevens fever, it's easy to forget just how much preparation goes into the final performances.
Now we're not talking about rugby, but the annual parade of costumes – many of them have been months in the making.
Case in point: 101 Dalmatians.
Kate Sweeten heads the organising committee of the 101 Dalmatians, she and her friends have been working like dogs.
They designed their own pattern then got commitment from 101 mates – and mates of mates around the country.
We also caught up with the famous taxi girls from 2007 sevens, doing last minute adjustments to their Vegas showgirls costumes.
Jan Tait is a costume designer and a mum to two of the taxi girls – she made all 10 costumes and says she spent around 100 hours on them.
“The challenge in putting a sevens costume together is where do you put your money for drinks, your cellphone, your lipgloss?” Ms Tait says.
The Dalmatian costume comes prepared – with a pouch in the tail.
“Isn't that ingenious,” says Ms Tait.
Last week, Campbell Live also caught up with sevens fan, Dan Morrah, who answered an ad for “a large-chested woman or midget to be a beer wench”.
Understandably that upset some people, but of 60 applicants Dan got the job and we found him this afternoon hard at work.
“I'm stoked to get the job – it's going to be a lot of fun. It's been a lot of fun,” Dan said.
