The Kapiti Coast District Council is looking at introducing a bylaw to turn the coast into one of the world's longest nudist beaches.

The proposed area is 45 kilometres of beach that stretches from Paekakariki to Otaki.

The local naturists say the District Council's new nude friendly plan is not just great for the region but also great for New Zealand.

And estimated 200 nudists frequent the Kapiti Coast and while there has been opposition to the plans, Councillor Peter Ellis says they are just moving with the times.

"I think there has always been a pretty clear line in the sand is that beaches are places for families, places for kids," Family First's Bob McCoskrie says. "They are a place that you cover up and dress decently, and that's been a good line in the sand and we'd like it kept there."

Residents have up until October 24 to make submissions opposing the change. Otherwise the nature coast could become the naturist coast.

Ironical someone named Bardoe is antil naturaism given Bridget's creativity! I have been on a naturist beach in Brighton, UK and at Cap d'Agde in France and would love a proper holiday there with the love of my life if she agrees, She has a fantastic body just like the lady naturist on the beach in the film and a great sense of fun.
Family first has an attitude problem as there are more pressing concerns for families than nude men, although presumably nude mums are more acceptable. That said not everyone wants to meet Venus emerging from the sea like a Mermaid, and maybe the Coast Council should designate a few beach areas for "clothed" people and textiles. Nudity is anyway part of Kiwi heritage
Communinity watchers can keep any perverts and voyeurs away as we need a squeaky clean image.
Personally I missed this news story a the time but I love nudity, especially any beaches where attractive women walk about carefree.

I am a bit of a hedonist and just think it is great. It is unusual to see visionary politicians being liberal and liberated and united in action. They also are doing something good for Tourism for a change. I can see the beachcombers and ormer shore gatherers are a bit wary, but I am sure this trio would not scare the fish. In fact the rushing waves and the powerful romantic imagery reminds me of Holly Hunter and her two soulmates in "The Piano".
I believe in free expression and the magic of Peka Peka at Kapati. The pictures make me not only wish for hot summer days being there in the fun as a sunseeker, but also get fitter to get my kit off.! I just need more time before our holidays begin again! GROMIT 2

I'm sure that people who are nudist have trained their thoughts and have a good understanding of self control.

However we live in a generation where sex has become a major part of our everyday lives, this is clearing seen everywhere. Most people do not understand the meaning of self control and view nudity differently.

Nudists should be able to express themselves but why not do it in a secluded environment. I think its selfish to want to expose yourself in front of people who do not want to see you naked, or in the same way depraving people from enjoying the beach because they don't want to see you naked.

A Christian Perspective:
There is nothing essentially sinful about nudity (Genesis 2:25). Adam and Eve did not realize they were naked until after the Fall of man (Genesis 3:7-11). Before the Fall, they were naked, and it was good (Genesis 1:31). Sin is what caused nakedness to become a problem. Sin introduced lust, immorality, and perversion into the human race. As a result, we can no longer look at a nude person of the opposite sex in a pure manner. God made clothing for Adam and Eve to resolve this problem (Genesis 3:21). If God approved of nakedness, He would have simply told them that being naked was okay, and they did not need to feel embarrassed or ashamed. The fact that God clothed Adam and Eve indicates that God expects us to be clothed. Nude beaches, nudist colonies, and all other forms of public nudity are not honoring to God. A Christian should definitely not be involved in nudist "activities."

So in tern, especially considering the daily influences of sex on families, children and the general public allowing situations like this is simply encouraging problems and behavior such as rape.

It would be interesting to know how many of those who oppose the naturist beach are Christians, and still refuse to recognise the human body as God's greatest creation, thereby regarding it with disgust and shame, handing Satan one of his greatest victories.

Or how many, not claiming any such religious affiliation, cannot recognise that shame is one of the pedophile's and pornographer's greatest weapons in obtaining and maintaining control over their victims.

It is a fact the children raised in a naturist family environment are less prone to sexual experimentation, early pregnancy, and sexual predation. They also have high self esteem.

So, leave the naturists alone. You have the right not to join them. They are among the friendliest, considerate, and respectful folks you ever could meet. For the naturist, nude recreation is not about sex.

Some people cannot view nudity, or even think of it, without thinking about sex. A true naturist, when engaging in wholesome nude recreation like volleyball, swimming, or sunbathing, is not thinking about sex. Who then is the pervert?

Try telling that to the new order of society today and what is to come(sara) i guess it is the like of these people that tramp on the ideal and morals of Family Values\ let alone think about the values of common human decency, to suite their own little personal agenda

The world is full of surprises and the secret naturist, who tends to explore country side and other areas not usually explored by 'normal' people and who also present an attractive target by being naked, tend to attract all manner of interesting creatures, many of which are intend on biting, stinging, eating and generally making life a misery for any unfortunate who passes by. Naturist looks like you and I and come from all walks of life. You will find it to be a relaxing lifestyle that is free of the daily stress we all experience. Naturist groups like naturistmingle are looking for people who are open minded and want to enjoy the company of others of a like mind.

If your eyes are too precious to see a bit of flesh - be it old or young - then feel free to enjoy your weekends at home sipping tea and knitting knee shawls. I for one plan to enjoy this summer to the fullest - bring on the skinnydipping!

It is difficult to imagine 45kms of flesh. And most of it will be less than ideal. I'll pass on this Kiwi experience thanks. Anyone else feel free to enjoy!
