Northland’s Zion Wildlife Gardens has been ordered to pay $60,000 reparation to the partner of a zoo keeper who was mauled to death.
Dalu Mncube was killed by a white tiger in 2009 while he was cleaning an enclosure.
The Department of Labour laid two charges, relating to the park failing to take practicable steps to esnrue the safety of employees and failing to control hazards that could cause harm.
A close friend of Mr Mncube, Sandy Taylor, says the outcome of today’s sentencing is disappointing.
“I’m just really upset that no mention was made about Dalu’s son and that’s what got me the most.
“The fact that the people in charge of the park and in charge of the health and safety up there seem to have gotten away with causing his death.”
The park was made famous through the Lionman television series, but is now in receivership.
