An increase in the number of lip cancer cases overseas is being linked to the use of lip-gloss.

The Care Chemist group is concerned at a study showing the link, and is advising women to be wary of wearing shiny lip-gloss in the sun.

The study found that lip glosses not containing SPF actually increase the amount of UV rays penetrating through to the skin.

Care Chemist chief executive Nicolette McDonald says the best way to avoid lip cancer is to wear a gloss with an SPF factor of at least 30.
