Labour MPs have been summoned to an urgent meeting at 4pm this afternoon to determine their confidence in current leader David Shearer.

Mr Shearer called the meeting yesterday amid speculation his role was under threat by fellow MP David Cunliffe.

Mr Cunliffe wouldn’t rule out a challenge to Mr Shearer’s leadership at the party’s weekend conference, which overshadowed policy announcements.

The vote was called by Mr Shearer to put speculation about his leadership to bed.

Mr Shearer will publically announce the result of the meeting after 5pm to media.

Watch a live stream of Mr Shearer’s announcement – scheduled for 5pm.

BS! What has Cunliffe done or said wrong? It seems Shearer is desperate.

yee gods he looks tired, old and anxious. Labour is a spent force. My advice... look to your younger members, there's another David waiting in the wings and this one genuinely has wings.
