Pilot Greg Gribble is supported as he walks away from the crashed helicopter

There was a miracle on Auckland's viaduct today. A miracle because helicopter pilot Greg Gribble survived along with all his ground crew after his chopper crashed just after 10.30 this morning.

Gribble was putting up an eight metre Christmas tree for Telecom and was hovering just five metres above the ground when his helicopter began to shake violently before splitting in two and crashing to the ground.

Reporter Helen Vaughan and cameraman Chris Jones were down at the viaduct working on another story when they heard the helicopter.

Watch the video of how that miracle unfolded
