Britney Spears' mother Lynne has downplayed the star's much publicised breakdown - comparing the 'Toxic' hitmaker's troubles to a teenager starting college.
The singer went into meltdown after losing custody of her two sons Sean Preston, three, and Jayden James, two, last year - and was hospitalised for a mental evaluation in January.
But mum Lynne is sure the star's problems were inevitable - because the singer was attempting to cut loose from her parents.
She tells British morning show GMTV: "I think there comes a time in a young adult's life where they wanna live their own life and mamma and daddy - they're not cool anymore.
"I think it was kind of that situation - much similar to a child that goes to college and they're really into their college life and they don't really come home a lot. If you can relate it to that."
Lynne is convinced her daughter will soon return to her superstar status - because she is "in her element" when she is performing.
"I think Britney is just ready to get started again. This is when she's most in her element," Lynne said.
The singer is aware she is going to have to juggle her professional life with the welfare of her sons - but Lynne is sure she'll be able to balance her responsibilities.
She adds: "There's gonna have to be the balance - it has to be worked out with work and everything like any other performer has to.
"But everything's going to be fine because we've got a lot of people and the best that are helping us now. We're gonna get this done and it's all gonna be good. You just wait and see!"
And Lynne reveals that it was good old fashioned family support that got the singer through her rough patch: "I think with a lot of love and care and help (she recovered). Sometimes you have to settle down. You have to stop (and) think. There are a lot of people that care about Britney and love Britney and Britney's doing great now."
Lynne also praised the Britney's parenting skills - insisting that despite the media circus around her, she is a "normal" mother.
The 'Womanizer' hitmaker has two boys with ex-husband Kevin Federline - Sean Preston, three, and Jayden James, two. And even though the singer is constantly hounded by the press, she makes sure she has fun with her sons when they spend time with her.
Lynne Spears tells GMTV: "She's a wonderful mother. She's funny, she's extremely affectionate. She's just a normal mother.
"Well, she is a normal mother but when you throw her in front of the cameras I guess everybody's going to act a little different. You're very guarded. But in the home where there's nobody around, she's very normal."
