Madonna has been revealed as the most-played artist of the last 10 years in the UK.
The People's Artists Chart, compiled from data reflecting radio and television airplay and public performance statistics, claims to be a "true reflection" of what Brits are listening to.
The Beatles, who have enjoyed something of a resurgence in popularity over the last couple of years thanks to the release of console game Rock Band: Beatles and a series of remastered albums, came in second.
The rest of the top 10 was mostly predictable, including Elvis Presley, Queen, Abba, Elton John, Robbie Williams, Coldplay and Take That – and perhaps surprisingly, to some at least, the Sugababes.
A similar chart compiled for classical recordings covered the last 75 years, and was topped by 'O Fortuna' from Carmina Burana.
