Madonna has been revealed as the most-played artist of the last 10 years in the UK.

The People's Artists Chart, compiled from data reflecting radio and television airplay and public performance statistics, claims to be a "true reflection" of what Brits are listening to.

The Beatles, who have enjoyed something of a resurgence in popularity over the last couple of years thanks to the release of console game Rock Band: Beatles and a series of remastered albums, came in second.

The rest of the top 10 was mostly predictable, including Elvis Presley, Queen, Abba, Elton John, Robbie Williams, Coldplay and Take That – and perhaps surprisingly, to some at least, the Sugababes.

A similar chart compiled for classical recordings covered the last 75 years, and was topped by 'O Fortuna' from Carmina Burana.

The fact that The Beatles....40 years since they were "on the scene" were played that much is, well, it goes without saying. The Beatles will still be played 500 years from now and beyong that. Madonna??? I don't think so, not even for another ten years.
