Magnitude 6.2 earthquake hits Tonga

A magnitude-6.2 earthquake rattled the island nation of Tonga in the South Pacific this morning.

There have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

The 12:07pm Friday (local time) quake was 8.6km below the surface, the US Geological Survey reported.

The USGS said the quake was some 382km northwest of Neiafu, Tonga.
