No tsunami alert was issued

A magnitude-7.0 earthquake shook the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu on Sunday morning, the US Geological Survey reported.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. No tsunami alert was issued.

The 9.55am Sunday quake was deep, some 132 kilometres below the surface, the USGS said.

The USGS said the quake hit some 348 kilometres southeast of Port Vila, the capital of Vanuatu, and some 1,860 kilometres northeast of Brisbane, Australia.
