Mahe Drysdale has finally returned to full training.

Although he hasn't quite returned to full fitness. The four time world champion says he's about 95 percent, the only things troubling him are high intensity starts.

“It’s just that last little bit that hasn't quite come right but in saying that I can still go and do starts, it just means that I get a little bit sore. But by the next morning I'm fine. It’s definitely improving, even a heap better than when I raced six weeks ago,” says Drysdale.

That was in Lucerne where he finished third.

It was the first World Cup regatta Drysdale had competed in all season.

And the lack of racing has made it difficult to gauge where he's at compared to his competition as he heads into the World Champs.

“It is a little bit hard. Basically the goal is to improve from where I was last year and I know that if I can do that, then I've got a pretty good chance. I feel two months down the track I should be back to my best,” says Drysdale.

The timing of this year's worlds has worked in Drysdale's favour, he has two extra months to get his body right.

And while he has another world title in his sights he's also focused on London 2012.

“If I had to give something away it would be this over London, but in saying that you know of course I want to win and that’s exactly what I'm aiming for and I’ll go and give it my best shot. It's not the end of the world, I've already got four, but yeah it would be nice to take five,” says Drysdale.

If he wins his fifth in a row he'll also take the record for the most number of single sculls titles ever won.
