A man charged with trying to set fire to Prime Minister John Key's electorate office northwest of Auckland has been denied bail.

Daniel Vale, 31, who was charged following the alleged arson at Mr Key's electorate office in Kumeu, applied to be released on bail at Waitakere District Court today.

But his application was denied and he will remain in custody until November, a court official told NZPA.

The charge against Vale was laid after a small fire broke out when a molotov cocktail was thrown through a window at Mr Key's office on September 10. Damaged was restricted to one room.

Vale is also charged with another arson at Helensville Rugby clubrooms in August.
