Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault on a 28-year-old man outside the Burger King restaurant in Taupo early on Sunday morning.

The attack occurred about 1am on Roberts St outside the Burger King restaurant, Sergeant James McGrogan, of Taupo police, said today

"A 28-year-old male victim was provoked, and set upon by a group of up to 12 youths.

"The victim first had his takeaway meal taken from him, and when he confronted the thief, he was pushed from behind."

The man hit his head against a stone ledge, causing a cut to his ear which required several stitches, Mr McGrogan said.

"Other members of the group then took the opportunity to kick the victim while he was helplessly lying on the ground."

The group ran off into the carpark area behind Burger King.

The victim was taken to Taupo hospital by ambulance, where he was treated, and discharged about 3 hours later, Mr McGrogan said.

Inquiries were continuing.

Teens of today need a lesson in manners. The govt. should make it compulsory/mandatory for them to attend Military training for a minimum of 2 years. Get some manners, discipline and nobility into our next generation otherwise they will only emulate the nonsense culture from overseas where every teen in our country now thinks it is cool to be a gangsta.
